It all started in 1972 when Gazza Neave decided to make Apple Surf Wax that was first used in a surf contest at Nobbies Beach Newcastle Australia in the 70’s.

Then some 25 years later Gaz decided to produce a wax for surfers around the world to use and appreciate.  He wanted to develop and produce a boardwax that was not only loved and used by the world pro’s as their preferred wax for competitions and personal use, but one that also captured the imaginations of the grommets and everyday surfers of the world. 'Coz everyone deserves a fantastic ride. Every time.

Gazza’s surfing background began in 1969 as a 15 year old grommet. He was shaping surfboards and surfing all the time, and still shapes a pretty mean stick today.  Gaz is from the old school, still believing in personalised, handcrafted boards that evolve under your hands as you shape them.

Gaz recognised a complacency in the world boardwax market and believed that a true and technically superior boardwax was yet to be developed for professional and personal use.

And Gaz doesn’t believe in using or being second best. He recognised that all wax manufacturers were good at talking the talk but failed to walk the walk.  Surfers are all used to their wax becoming greasy, quickly wearing out, bare patches and smudging all over their boards after a surf session.  So he decided that it was time to make a better wax...

Through 8 years of research and development, Gaz realised why other waxes behaved the way they did and set out to eliminate the ingredients that were making these waxes inferior, replacing them with ingredients that are set to change the way surfers around the globe view their wax from now on.

“Wax should not be like this,” Gaz says, “Wax is not just wax.  Any world class motor racer, before a big race, doesn’t just go to his local tyre-mart for a new set of tyres for the event.  He makes sure he has the best customised grip, the best tyres in the market, especially developed for him.  So why should us dedicated surfers take second best with our grip and our ride?”

No more!

GIVING SOMEONE THE “BIG FINGER” IS NOT ALWAYS A BAD THING.
Read on....

Just before the Battle of Agincourt in 1415, the French (with reportedly 20,000 to 30,000 troops), anticipating victory over the English (with 6,000-9,000 troops), proposed to cut off the middle finger of all captured English soldiers. Without the middle finger it would be impossible to draw the renowned English longbow and therefore soldiers would be incapable of fighting in the future.

This famous weapon was made of the native English yew tree, and the act of drawing the longbow was known as "plucking the yew".  Much to the bewilderment of the French, the English won in a major upset and began mocking the French by waving their middle fingers at the defeated French saying, "See, we can still pluck yew!  Still Kicking Arse and free.“

That’s why we use the finger as our logo.  It is a sign of defiance and resilience.  We’re here for the long haul so ‘pluck yew’ and get used to it!
